  • Slowly, thin tears began to trail down his face as he stared into her eyes. He tried to speak but couldn’t. Likewise, his body felt as if all the parts responsible for his strength and energy had been drained. The way she spoke confirmed to him that she had a hand in the troubles he had found himself in. There was nothing going through his mind except “Inna lillahi”. No matter how much he tried to lift his hand, he couldn’t. While he watched helplessly, she stood up and stormed out of the room. Within a few minutes, she returned with her phone, sat beside him, and turned on a recording.

The entire conversation they had with Mutalib, from beginning to end, was there—nothing was missing. Even the phone call he made with Qalam, and how he tried to explain the evidence he had found, was all recorded. When they finished listening, she turned it off with a sharp tap. As she did, she looked at him.

“Are you surprised? Well, let me tell you—every single movement of yours is under my watch, Jamid. I know exactly what you’ve been planning. You mean this?”

She pointed at the drive, then sighed and dropped a smile only she knew the meaning of.

“You think this will stop my resolve? You think this will end plans I’ve been making for years and years? Where were you planning to bring me down? Me? I’m your wife—why can’t you support me? Why? Do you even know the kind of pain I’ve been carrying in my heart for years? From the day Taj appeared in our lives, all happiness deserted us, and it even caused Ummu’s death. Before my very eyes, the grief that boy brought ended her breathing.”

Her eyes turned very red as her face changed into something deeply pitiful. Tears streamed down her face as she finished speaking.

Jamid did nothing but stare at her. Seeing the look on his face made her burst into laughter.

    “Hahahahahah!”

She laughed for a long moment, then suddenly stopped. Her eyes reddened again as she said,

“Anyone who enters my territory, I remove them—no matter who it is. Why didn’t you stay in your place and just watch? Why did you interfere? Now you see the consequences, right? Let me tell you the most interesting part.”

She moved closer, right beside his ear, so that only the two of them could hear what she was saying.

“In less than a minute, and with just a little money, I arranged for him to be hit by a car. Deep down, I wanted him dead, but if I had let him die like that, his ending would have been too easy. That’s why I changed my plan. I’ve never regretted doing that. I want him to suffer. I won’t kill him now—I’ll destroy his life. I’ll turn him into a cripple. Just as I promised, Tajudeen will never enjoy life until he dies, as long as I’m alive. I’ll make sure he suffers. I’ll make sure even animals are better off than him. In fact, whatever I do to him, I don’t think it will ever erase the scar that’s firmly lodged in my heart until I see his last breath—and I mean it.”

When she finished, she stood up, her body trembling slightly, then turned away. Jamid was plunged into extreme shock, especially after hearing her openly admit that she was responsible for Taj’s accident. The words she spoke were completely devoid of faith or mercy, and it was clear she would carry out everything she said.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.

Taj’s life, and Sabeeha’s, were in danger—only God knew what she was planning now. With great difficulty, he managed to open his twisted mouth and began to speak in a broken, pitiful manner, tears flowing down his face.

    “Al…lah… will… not… for…give… you…”

He finished and closed his eyes tightly. She stood still, listened to him till the end, then stormed out of the room completely.

After leaving, she went straight into her study room, pulled the laptop on the table closer, and inserted the drive until it connected. She clicked around until she located the file. At first, she was surprised to see there was no password, since such files are usually hidden. Just as she was about to click it, her phone rang. She quickly picked it up and put it to her ear.

    “Bring him in.”

She dropped the phone immediately. A few minutes later, the head maid entered the study, followed by a man wearing a green uniform with a white cap. She looked at the head maid and motioned for her to leave. After she left, she pointed at the chair facing the table. He quickly obeyed, sat down, and placed his bag beside him.

    “Good day, madam.”

She didn’t even look at him. She leaned back on her chair, then slowly scanned him from head to toe. He was an employee of a psychiatric facility—one look at him and you could tell he was mentally unstable. That was exactly why she had requested someone whose mouth she could easily shut, so she could get what she wanted without problems. Now she decided to do everything herself, especially after hearing that the doctors she had hired were secretly working for Khaal behind her back.

She opened her hand, signaling him to hand over what he brought. He opened his bag and brought out three packets of drugs along with a bottle, placing them in front of her.

“Madam, these are the things you requested.”

As he tried to explain how to use them, she cut him off. She opened her table drawer, brought out bundles of riyal notes, placed them on the table, and said,

“How I use them is none of your business. You’re dismissed.”

Trembling, he stood up, grabbed the money and his bag, and hurried out fearfully. He thought about how dangerous those drugs were—usually given to psychiatric patients with specific dosages. Exceeding that could seriously damage the brain instead of helping. But whatever—it wasn’t his problem anymore, especially since he had been paid well.

After he left, Hidaya picked up the drug packets, turned them over thoughtfully, making calculations in her mind. Without even looking at the laptop, she stood up and left the study room with the drugs in her hand.

Sabeeha was standing by the door leading into Hidaya’s section when the door suddenly opened. She quickly stepped back, startled. She had assumed Hidaya would come out, but instead saw someone else. Her body relaxed instantly. Ever since Jamid was brought back from the hospital, she had wanted to see him, but fear stopped her—Hidaya had forbidden anyone from seeing him. Now she was looking for a way to sneak into that section, even if secretly.

As she stood there, the man who came out walked past her. Just as she was about to turn, Fadwa came upstairs. Sabeeha quickly lowered her head as Fadwa reached where she stood. Fadwa looked her up and down, then turned away and placed her hand on the door handle. As she entered, Sabeeha quietly turned and went back to her own section.

Fadwa went straight to Hidaya’s study room without stopping anywhere, since that was where she usually stayed, especially at that time. Hidaya hadn’t been gone long from the study before she remembered the drive she had left connected to the laptop and returned. As she was about to enter, Fadwa rushed toward the door in panic, almost colliding with her.

When Hidaya lifted her head, she saw Fadwa standing there, eyes wide like someone caught doing something wrong. Nothing crossed her mind at first, but seeing how Fadwa rushed toward the door as if trying to leave made her stare intensely.

    “What are you doing here?”

“Uh… I actually came to look for you.”

Hidaya glanced at the laptop on the table, then turned her gaze back to Fadwa.

    “Did you touch this laptop?”

“No, no. I just came in now.”

Hidaya smacked her lips and walked toward the laptop.
